Before You Begin

What to Expect

Preserving flowers is a beautiful process — but it's also a natural one. Here's what you should know before entrusting us with your most meaningful blooms.

Setting Realistic Expectations

At Everlasting Bloom Co., we believe in complete transparency about our preservation process. Your flowers are organic, one-of-a-kind elements of nature — and while we use every technique available to preserve their beauty, they will look different after preservation than they did on your wedding day.

This isn't a flaw — it's part of what makes each keepsake unique. Understanding these natural changes will help you appreciate your finished piece even more.

Color Changes After Drying

Every flower has a unique chemical makeup that gives it its distinct color and pigmentation. While your blooms are fresh with a supply of water, these pigments remain bright and vibrant. As flowers are dried, the pigments naturally degrade through oxidation.

Dried flowers will always look different from fresh flowers. This is a natural, unavoidable part of the preservation process.

In general, you can expect:

  • Reds often deepen to burgundy or dark crimson
  • Pinks may soften to blush or dusty rose tones
  • Purples can shift toward blue or mauve
  • Yellows and oranges typically hold their color well
  • Whites and creams will warm to ivory, beige, or soft yellow
  • Greenery may darken or turn olive/brown depending on the variety

The exact color transformation depends on the specific flower variety, how fresh they were when dried, and their overall condition. No two flowers preserve exactly the same way.

Preserving White Flowers

White and cream-colored flowers undergo one of the most noticeable transformations during preservation. After drying, white flowers will gently shift to soft shades of ivory, beige, or warm yellow — similar to how a fresh apple slice changes color when exposed to air.

Some preservationists choose not to work with all-white arrangements because of this natural color change. We take a different approach: we believe every bouquet deserves to be preserved, regardless of color palette. We've successfully preserved hundreds of all-white arrangements, and the warm, antique tones they develop have a beautiful, timeless quality.

What to Expect with White Flowers

Your bright white blooms will transform into soft ivory, cream, or warm beige tones. This is completely natural and cannot be prevented without artificial dyes or chemicals — which we never use. Many clients find this aged, romantic look even more beautiful than stark white.

Tropical & High-Moisture Flowers

Certain flowers contain significantly more moisture than others, which makes them more challenging to preserve. These blooms tend to brown more easily and can change color dramatically during the drying process.

Challenging to Preserve

Calla lilies, anthuriums, orchids, birds of paradise, protea, tulips, and other tropical or high-moisture blooms may brown or discolor significantly.

Cannot Be Preserved

Succulents and berries contain too much moisture to dry properly and will not hold up in resin. We cannot include these in your keepsake.

If your bouquet contains tropical flowers, please understand that dramatic color changes are natural and unavoidable. We will do our best to showcase them beautifully, but we cannot offer refunds due to natural browning or discoloration of these flower types.

Handling Marks & Natural Imperfections

Your bouquet was held, carried, touched, and admired throughout your special day. By the time it reaches us, your flowers have been handled by florists, photographers, family members, and you. This is part of their story — but it also means they may show signs of that journey.

What You May See in Your Finished Piece

  • Bruising on petals — Soft spots where flowers were touched or squeezed
  • Brown edges or tips — Natural aging that occurred before or during shipping
  • Small tears or imperfections — Damage from handling or transport
  • Petal discoloration — Spots where moisture collected or petals overlapped

We work as gently as possible to preserve the shape and color of your blooms, but we cannot reverse damage that occurred before your flowers arrived at our studio.

Bruising and petal discoloration are natural results of the handling, drying, and preservation process. These imperfections are not considered defects and are not valid reasons for a refund.

How Resin Ages Over Time

Like all organic keepsakes — leather, linen, photographs — your resin piece will develop a gentle patina over time. All resin products will naturally amber (develop a slight yellow tint) as years pass.

PetalSafe™ Technology

Our proprietary PetalSafe™ resin formula has been specially engineered to minimize and significantly slow the ambering process. It also protects your flowers from excessive heat during curing, which can damage delicate petals. While no resin can prevent aging entirely, PetalSafe™ gives your keepsake the best possible longevity.

Caring for Your Keepsake

To help your piece stay beautiful for as long as possible:

  • Display out of direct sunlight for extended periods
  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners
  • Keep on a stable, flat surface

With proper care, your keepsake will remain beautiful for decades — aging gracefully alongside your memories.

The Importance of Flower Condition

The single most important factor in the quality of your finished keepsake is the condition of your flowers when they arrive at our studio. Fresh, well-hydrated blooms preserve significantly better than flowers that have wilted, dried out, or been damaged in transit.

Flowers in Great Condition

  • Better color retention
  • Fewer brown spots and bruises
  • Fuller, more vibrant petals
  • More options for arrangement
  • Better overall outcome

Flowers in Poor Condition

  • Significant color loss
  • More visible browning and damage
  • Wilted, fragile petals
  • Fewer usable blooms
  • Limited design options

This is why we strongly recommend our Bloom Box™ — it's specifically designed to keep your flowers fresh during overnight transit.

If you choose to ship your flowers using your own packaging, please follow our Fresh Flower Shipping Guide carefully. We cannot guarantee results when flowers arrive in poor condition due to inadequate packaging or shipping delays.

Our Design Process

Every keepsake we create is a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Our designers carefully arrange your preserved flowers to showcase their natural beauty — but please understand that the final arrangement will not be an exact replica of your original bouquet.

What to Know

  • Designer's discretion — The final arrangement is based on which flowers look best after drying, the shape and size of your chosen mold, and how the blooms fit together
  • No two pieces are identical — Even bookend sets will have slight variations, as each side is arranged individually
  • Mold depths vary — Due to the natural expansion and shrinkage of epoxy during curing, dimensions may vary slightly from piece to piece
  • We do not provide proofs — Because of the nature of resin casting, we cannot show you the final arrangement before it's complete

Have a Special Request?

If you have a specific design preference — like featuring certain flowers prominently or including a specific color throughout — please leave a note at checkout. Our designer will do their best to accommodate your request, though the final design is ultimately at our discretion based on what will look best with your preserved blooms.
